July 3, 2007 Targeted Grants to Increase the Well-Being of, and to Improve the Permanency Outcomes for, Children Affected by Methamphetamine or Other Substance Abuse. Qualified faith-based and other organizations may apply for Targeted Grants to Increase the Well-Being of, and to Improve the Permanency Outcomes for, Children Affected by Methamphetamine or Other Substance Abuse. These targeted grants will be awarded to regional partnerships that provide, through interagency collaboration and integration of programs and services, activities and services that are designed to increase the well-being of, improve permanency outcomes for, and enhance the safety of children who are in an out-of-home placement or are at risk of being placed in an out-of-home placement as a result of a parent's or caretaker's methamphetamine or other substance abuse. Applicants must clearly state for which of these four program options they are applying.  A total of $20.6 million is available to fund up to eight projects.  Applications are due July 3, 2007.The program announcement is at http://www.acf.hhs.gov/grants/open/HHS-2007-ACF-ACYF-CU-0022.html.

July 3, 2007 Improving Access and Uptake of Routine Confidential Counseling and Testing in Selected Rural Populations in the Republic of Zambia under the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).  Qualified faith-based and other organizations may apply for a program on Improving Access and Uptake of Routine Confidential Counseling and Testing in Selected Rural Populations in the Republic of Zambia under the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).The purpose of this program is to set up and run confidential counseling-and-testing (CT) sites in selected, disadvantaged rural areas of Zambia. In consultation with the Provincial health authorities, HHS has chosen three Districts that are among the most remote areas in Zambia: Shangombo in Western Province, Namwala in Southern Province and Luangwa in Lusaka Province.  These Districts are located near rivers and poorly-served all-weather roads, which makes them difficult to reach by car during the rainy season. For example, during the rainy season in Shangombo, three communities with a total population of 25,000 are completely cut off for nearly half the year, and unreachable by car or boat. The only means of travel to the nearest District during an emergency is by ox cart. To provide continuous, confidential CT all year to such isolated communities will require training and support to existing health care providers.  Activities include the following :the training of counselors in local languages; the procurement through a competitive and transparent process of back-up testing supplies and appropriate mobile units (ranging from bicycle, motorbike or 4x4 vehicle to speed boat); the maintenance of the mobile units, the provision of confidential CT in the communities by using the mobile units; the improvement of referral linkages with treatment and care programs; and an emphasis on both positive and negative prevention.  Approximately $500,000 is available annually to fund this program. Applications are due July 3, 2007.The program announcement is at http://www.cdc.gov/od/pgo/funding/PS07-712.htm.

October 15, 2007 Centers for Research to Reduce Disparities in Oral Health.   Qualified faith-based and other institutes of higher education may apply to become Centers for Research to Reduce Disparities in Oral Health. These populations include racial and ethnic minorities, low income groups and persons with special needs. The Centers for Research to Reduce Disparities in Oral Health (CRRDOH) will provide a venue for the establishment of interdisciplinary research teams to conduct studies that emphasize prevention and translation in communities, training and career development of researchers from diverse backgrounds and disciplines, accelerated dissemination and implementation of research findings to benefit health disparity populations, and development and maintenance of core facilities.  A total of $70 million is available to fund four projects over a seven year period. Letters of intent are due October 15, 2007.Applications are due November 15, 2007.The program announcement is at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-DE-08-008.html.
